RBI Okays Sanjeev Nautiyal’s Appointment As Ujjivan Small Finance Bank MD & CEO

Ujjivan Small Finance Bank (Ujjivan SFB) said the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) approved the appointment of Sanjeev Nautiyal as the lender’s managing director and chief executive officer from 1 July for three years.

Nautiyal, an accomplished banker, will join the bank much prior to his taking charge as MD & CEO and be designated as the president in the interim, Ujjivan SFB said in a stock exchange announcement. He will also assume office as a key managerial personnel of the bank.

The appointment of Nautiyal, who will succeed MD & CEO Ittira Davis, will be subject to the approval of shareholders at the bank’s annual general meeting.

Ujjivan SFB Chairman Banavar Anantharamaiah Prabhakar said the board has respected the wishes of Davis to be released a few months prior to his original expiry of term and he will work with Nautiyal to ensure a smooth transition.

Prabhakar said Nautiyal is a strategic retail banker with an all-round experience in both the domestic and international markets.

“His expertise across the banking spectrum in creating and nurturing strong institutions, with customer at the forefront, makes him the natural choice to lead Ujjivan into the future,” he added.

Ujjivan SFB said Nautiyal is a banker with over three decades of extensive strategic domain expertise in retail, SME, financial inclusion, operations, HR, international banking, and treasury.

Nautiyal retired as deputy managing director of government-owned State Bank of India and earlier held the role of MD and CEO at SBI Life Insurance for two years, in his 36 years of banking career. He currently is the independent director of Life Insurance Corporation and acts as an advisor in various organizations.

Nautiyal holds a Bachelor’s degree in Arts and a Master’s degree in Business Administration, according to the statement. He is also a Certified Associate of the Indian Institute of Bankers, it said.
