Indian Law Firm SNG & Partners Launches Dedicated Japan Desk

Indian law firm SNG & Partners launched a dedicated Japan Desk to expand its capability of providing specialized consultancy, advisory and legal services to the clients.

The firm’s New Delhi-based partner Ashish Kumar will head the Japan Desk, which will have a dedicated team of lawyers, interpreters and other professionals, SNG & Partners said in a statement.

The Japan Desk will assist the Japanese firms looking to invest and do business in India as well as Indian companies considering investment in Japan.

Japan’s bilateral trade with India totaled $21.96 billion in FY23, according to the India Brand Equity Foundation (IBEF), a commerce ministry body.

“I am excited about the Japan opportunity and firmly believe that the two countries will continue to cooperate, collaborate and grow together in several areas of trade and commerce,” said Rajesh Narain Gupta, managing partner of SNG & Partners.

He added that SNG & Partners, along with the board of advisors from Japan, will be able to significantly contribute in the areas of fintech, health, banking & finance, cyber security, ESG, mergers & acquisitions and private equity.

The board of advisers of the Japan Desk are Kenji Hiramatsu, former ambassador of Japan to India, and Naoyoshi Noguchi, the executive managing director of Japan’s Institute for International Trade and Investment.

Other advisers are Kojiro Honda, a renowned entrepreneur and founder of several companies in Japan, India, Sri Lanka and Nepal, as well as Yoshio Watanabe, a veteran and formerly associated with ANZ Grindlays Bank and then IHI Infrastructure Systems Ltd.

Founded in 1962, by late S.N. Gupta, SNG & Partners is a second-generation full-service law firm with offices in Bengaluru, Mumbai, New Delhi and Singapore, according to its website.
